Explore the Museum of Photography in Berlin! Since its opening in 2004, it is visited by over 1 million visitors a year.

Originally, the Neoclassical building was inaugurated in 1909 as a casino for the Berlin Landwehr division and was equipped with several ballrooms, a restaurant, guest rooms, and even a bowling alley. In the Second World War, the building got largely destroyed. After several years of reconstruction work, it was used by different museums for exhibitions or storage. In 2004, it finally was converted to the Museum of Photography.

Nowadays, you can visit permanent as well as rotating exhibitions of the Helmut Newton Foundation and the Kunstbibliothek’s Collection of Photography. On the two lower floors, you will find the exhibitions of the Helmut Newton Foundation, amongst them also the very successful permanent exhibition 'Helmut Newton’s Private Property'. On the second floor, you still can visit the restored Kaisersaal and you will find rotating exhibitions of the Kunstbibliothek’s Collection of Photography, focussing on photography from the 19th to the 21st century.
