Ting at foretage sig på Speicherstadt
Speicherstadt, eller ’pakhusbyen’, er verdens største historiske pakhus-distrikt og et af Hamburgs mest dynamiske områder. Distriktet er beliggende i havnen i Hamburg, inden for HafenCity-kvarteret, og blev erklæret et UNESCO Verdensarvssted i 2015 på grund a dens unikke bygninger, snoede netværk af gader, kanaler og broer, og dens betydning for byens historie.
Distriktet blev bygget i Elben-floden mellem 1883 og 1927 for at skabe en frizone i hjertet af en af Europas største havne. Pakhusene blev traditionelt set brugt til at opbevare varer som kaffe, te, kakao, krydderier og tobak. Området har været inde i en periode med sanering, men til den dag i dag bruges nogle af bygningerne stadig som pakhuse, hovedsagelig til handel af tæpper, blandt andre varer.
Rækkerne af bygninger med nygotisk rød murstensarkitektur er forbundet af forgrenede kanaler, der bugter sig gennem HafenCity-kvarteret. Tag på en rundvisning og få indblik i en vigtig del af byens historie, mens du beundrer den imponerende arkitektur af bygningerne med deres gotiske tårne, gavle, buer og de mange broer, der krydser vandvejene.
Området er en populær turistattraktion, med fokus på havnen eller byvandringer. Der er også adskillige museer at besøge inden for området, samt caféer, butikker og restauranter. At besøge distriktet om aftenen er også en værdifuld oplevelse, da bygningerne er belyst af projektører og spejler sig i vandveje og skaber en romantisk stemning.
Du kan få adgang til Speicherstadt-distriktet med offentlig transport, U-Bahn-stationerne Baumwall (U3) og Meßberg (U1), som kun er beliggende en kort gåtur derfra.
