The tour continues along Via Santa Maria, an ancient road linking the religious centre with Piazza dei Cavalieri. Here you'll find its Church, the prestigious "la normale" university founded by Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Gualandi Tower. This tower is infamous as the place where Count Ugolino, a character from Dante's Divine Comedy, starved to death.
