Ting at foretage sig på Kristus Forløseren
Beliggende toppen af Corcovado-bjerget i Rio de Janeiro er statuen af Kristus Forløseren helt sikkert Brasiliens mest berømte vartegn. Du finder det i den første del af nationalparken Parque Nacional da Floresta da Tijuca over 975 meter over havets overflade.
Den er betragtet som et af de Syv Nye Vidundere i Verden, og fra statuen kan man beundre en utrolig udsigt over hele byen. Lavet af den franske billedhugger Paul Landowski og bygget af den brasilianske ingeniør Heitor da Silva Costa, i samarbejde med den franske ingeniør Albert Caquot, blev Kristus Forløseren-statuen bygget mellem 1922 og 1931. Statuen er ca. 30 meter høj, eksklusiv dens 8-meters piedestal, og armene strækker sig med en bredde på 27 meter.
Du kan tage et tog, en bil eller vandre op til statuen. Den mest populære måde er at tage tandhjulstoget gennem Den Atlantiske Skov, indtil du når toppen af Corcovado. Herfra kan du bestige de 220 trin, tage rulletrappen eller elevatoren for at nå foden af statuen.
Kristus Frelseren repræsenterer et symbol på Kristendommen i hele verden og er et vigtigt kulturelt ikon for både Rio de Janeiro og Brasilien. I 2012 erklærede UNESCO det for et Verdensarvssted.
