I hjertet af Sevilla ligger det spektakulære Real Alcázar, et UNESCO-palads, der er berømt for dets usædvanlige blanding af maurisk og kristent renæssancedesign. Slottet repræsenterer udviklingen af selve byen med en hybrid stil, der afspejler dets mange herskere. Det begyndte sit liv som fort i 913, og det blev moderniseret til fæstning for Abbadid-familien og derefter yderligere udvidet under Almohaderne. Endelig, efter erobringen af Sevilla af Fernando III i 1248, nåede det dens endelige inkarnation som kongeligt palads (en status, som det fortsætter med at have). Det fortsatte med at undergå yderligere udvidelser og ændringer til at passe til behovene for de forskellige monarker. I løbet af de fem hundrede års byggeri efterfulgte forskellige arkitektoniske stilarter hinanden. Af denne grund er stedet en slående kombination af islamisk, barok, gotisk og renæssance stil.
Komplekset er omfattende, så tag det med ro og planlæg i forvejen. Højdepunkter inkluderer Palacio de Don Pedro, som nok er det mest berømte og arkitektonisk imponerende, og det overdådige Salón de Embajadores, som oprindeligt var Pedro I.'s tronsal. De sprudlende haver med en labyrint er også værd at vandre i. Blandt eksotiske planter, appelsintræer, palmer, springvand og pavilloner vil du finde hjørner fuld af fascination, såsom Kviksølvsdammen, Det Groteske Galleri eller Dansens Have.
Real Alcázar de Sevilla åbner kl 9:30 fra mandag til søndag. Fra 15. september til 31. marts lukker det kl17:00 ,og 1. april til 12. september lukker det kl. 19:00.
