Navnet Murano ekkoer omkring i verden takket være kunsten af øens mesterlige glaskunstnere. Glasset kom til Venedig omkring år 1000 og takket være handelsmæssige forbindelser med Østen, nåede teknikkerne til glasfremstilling til det højeste niveau. Men omkring år 1100, på grund af forurening og faren for brande, blev ovne forbudt i Venedig og, de blev flyttet til den nærliggende ø Murano. Ingen i verden har formået at gøre dem kunsten efter, og stadig i dag er Muranoglas en garanti for kvalitet og kreativitet. Den spektakulære ø Burano blev berømt for håndlavede kniplinger i det 16. århundrede. Selvom kniplingeproduktion på øen faldt i det 18. århundrede, blev det genoplivet i det 19. århundrede, da en skole for kniplingeproduktion blev åbnet. I dag sidder kunsthåndværkerne ved dørene i deres farverige huse og fletter de mest imponerende kniplinger.
