Cachée au cœur de la jungle du Yucatán se trouve l'ancienne cité maya de Coba. Cette excursion culturelle vous propose de visiter ses ruines et de découvrir l'énigmatique héritage maya, avec sa grande pyramide, avec la rencontre des villageois locaux et une baignade dans un cénote sacré. Valentina, l'une de nos guides locales expertes, explique : "Coba était autrefois une ville immense, qui abritait environ 50 000 personnes à son apogée. Coba signifie "eaux agitées", car la ville était située sur deux lagunes où soufflait la brise. Elle n'est pas aussi connue que Chichen Itza, donc elle a tendance à être plus calme pour se déplacer et la visiter.''

Nous arriverons tôt à Coba pour pouvoir explorer le site aux heures les plus fraîches et éviter les foules. C'est l'un des sites les plus récemment fouillés du Yucatán et c'était autrefois l'une des villes les plus importantes des Mayas. Parmi les sites les plus remarquables, figurent la grande pyramide de Nohoch Mul, mesurant plus de 40 mètres de haut, et les stèles qui témoignent de la puissance des femmes dirigeantes de l'ancienne Coba. Valentina ajoute : "La pyramide principale de Coba est la plus grande de la région. Elle est le point central des anciennes "routes blanches" pavées qui s'étendent à travers le site. Il y a plus de 50 de ces routes dans et autour de Coba. Elles étaient utilisées pour le commerce et la communication."

L'heure sera venue de visiter une communauté maya, où les villageois vivent encore sans eau courante ni électricité. Vous rencontrerez certains des habitants pour en savoir plus sur leur vie et leurs traditions. Vous assisterez à une cérémonie maya avant de déguster un repas traditionnel dans un restaurant voisin. La journée se termine par une baignade rafraîchissante dans un cénote voisin.
