Cosa fare a Lübeck Cathedral
Lübeck Cathedral (Lübecker Dom) dominates the skyline of the UNESCO-listed city centre of Lübeck with its majestic green-tiled church towers and burnt orange brickwork. It is a must-see when visiting the old town!
Built in 1173 and founded by Henry the Lion, Lübeck Cathedral is one of the oldest monuments in the city and has a rich history to follow. In 1942, the cathedral was damaged by air raids and the current church that you can visit today was finished in 1982.
This Romanesque building has a rich artistic interior waiting for you to discover. Inside, you can find highlights such as Bernt Notke’s Triumphal Cross, a stunning 17-metre Gothic crucifix. You’ll also be able to see stunning carvings and sculptures, and the 17th-century Lettner Clock. The clock face features a dreamy sun with a dark blue background that will leave you mesmerised!
The cathedral is unique as it stands at 105 metres tall, shorter than the tallest church in the city which is St. Mary’s. Positioned near the water’s edge of the River Trave, don’t forget to capture the glow of the cathedral at night as its lights reflect onto the water.
