Als jouw idee van een leuke zondag is dat je marktkraampjes afstruint, lokale specialiteiten proeft en de lokale cultuur proeft, dan is deze ochtend op je lijf geschreven. Je bezoekt drie markten in drie bergstadjes en ziet echt hoe Gran Canaria is.

Eerst ga je naar Santa Brigida. Het is gebouwd op de hellingen van groene heuvels en komt helemaal tot leven op zijn zondagse markt. Je bekijkt al het aanbod en gaat dan op weg naar het volgende dorp, San Mateo. De ligging in een vruchtbare vallei is de perfecte omgeving voor het verbouwen van groenten en fruit.

En tot slot bezoek je wat velen beschouwen als de mooiste stad op het eiland: Teror. Kleurrijke koloniale huizen, overhangende houten balkons en uitzicht op de met wolken bedekte bergen zijn slechts een paar redenen waarom het zo hoog aangeschreven staat. Je struint van kraam naar kraam op de straatmarkt en koopt misschien wat lokale chorizo. Daarna zetten we je af bij Playa del Ingles.

The markets were under whelming to say the least. First one was in a small courtyard not even a market. The second one was a bit bigger with few more stalls. The last one was very disappointing with only one shop for gifts. The rest were cheese and olive stalls. The tour guide just left us to wonder around on our own. Definitely poor value for money and not worth it!

Guide, Peter, was lovely and knowledgeable. Spoke in English and German on our tour so nobody missed anything. Markets were fab - couldve done with another half hour at Teror Market as it was the biggest with much more to see/buy. Overall though was a fab day out.

The journey was extremely uncomfortable, as we were crammed into a minibus, and the seats were so close together it was difficult to sit straight in the seat - our knees were pressed against the seat in front. This detracted from what was otherwise a good trip, although the first market was not up to much, 10 minutes would have sufficed. The last two markets were great, and gave us a good snapshot into Canarian life.
