Step into the walled complex of the Beguinage (Begijnhof) and discover the legacy of the lovely ladies who lived here.

Located in Breda’s historic city center, within walking distance of the Town Hall, Breda Museum, Grote Markt and Grote Chruch, the Beguinage is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and breathe in the tranquil atmosphere left by the beguines.

The Beguinage is made up of spacious green courtyards surrounded by 29 small houses - where some single women live today. See the buildings which were used as the infirmary, toilets (‘poop house’!), and wash house. There’s also a small church and herb garden to explore with over 300 kinds of herbs!

Why not take a look inside the museums? There’s the Miniature and Dollhouse Museum and the Beguinage Museum (house 29) where you can learn all about the lives of the beguines; the women who devoted their lives to charity and good work. Keep an eye out for concerts that are organised here too!
