Hagia Sophia i Istanbul är känd för sin massiva kupol, en före detta grekisk östortodox kristen patriarkalkatedral. Efter detta var det en ottomansk kejserlig moské och användes i dessa dagar som ett museum. Detta vackra underverk blandar element från sitt kristna och islamiska arv och är unik plats att besöka.
Hagia Sophia byggdes i sin nuvarande form år 537 e.Kr. av det bysantinska riket i början av medeltiden och förblev en östortodox katedral i 916 år. Efter den ottomanska erövringen 1453 förvandlades den till en moské, som den förblev i 482 år. År 1935 förvandlades byggnaden till ett museum på order av den turkiska presidenten.

“Die Gruppe war mit etwa 40 Personen zu groß. Die Sprachqualität der bereitgestellten Audio Guides war sehr schlecht. Man konnte nur wenig verstehen, ständige Störgeräusche machten das Zuhören sehr anstrengend. Die Wartezeit an der Sicherheitskontrolle betrug auch noch einige Zeit, sodass wir erst eine Stunde nach dem offiziellen Start in die Hagia Sophia eintreten konnten. Der Guide war sehr freundlich.”
