Saltgruvan i Wieliczka är ett av de mest värdefulla och mest fascinerande kulturmonumenten i Polen. Byggd i staden Wieliczka, södra Polen, på 1200-talet producerade den bordssalt under hela dess existens fram till 2007. Även om den kommersiella gruvbrytningen stoppades 1996 på grund av låga saltpriser och översvämningar, förblev gruvan en av de största attraktionerna i Polen med över 1,2 miljoner besökare per år! Turister från hela Europa och världen anländer för att själva se de historiska statyer och mytiska figurer som gruvarbetarna har huggit ut ur bergsaltet. Bland andra attraktioner som man kan se på en rundtur i gruvan finns ett riktigt kapell som ibland används för privata evenemang, inklusive bröllop! 1978 var saltgruvan i Wieliczka officiellt listad som ett UNESCO världsarv.
Under saltproduktionsperioden var saltgruvan i Wieliczka samtidigt en turistattraktion och besöktes av många kända personer. Listan över kända besökare inkluderar namn som Nicolaus Copernicus, Fryderyk Chopin, tidigare USA s president Bill Clinton och många andra. Med sina mystiska driftar, glittrande gallerier och kammare kommer saltgruvan i Wieliczka definitivt vara en av höjdpunkterna under ditt besök i Polen!
