Kristusstatyn, på toppen av Corcovado-berget i Rio de Janeiro, är Brasiliens mest kända landmärke. Den ligger i Tijucas nationalpark, över 700 meter över havet.
Kristusstatyn är världens största art deco-staty och betraktas som ett av världens sju nya underverk. Härifrån kan du beundra utsikten över hela staden. Statyn är skapad av den franske skulptören Paul Landowski och byggd av den brasilianske ingenjören Heitor da Silva Costa, i samarbete med den franske ingenjören Albert Caquot. Kristusstatyn byggdes under åren 1922 till 1931 och är 38 meter hög inklusive den 8 meter höga sockeln.
Du kan ta tåget eller promenera upp till statyn. Det populäraste sättet är att ta kugghjulståget genom regnskogen tills du når toppen av Corcovado. Därifrån kan du gå upp för de 220 trappstegen, ta rulltrappan eller hissen för att nå foten av statyn.
Kristusstatyn är en viktig symbol för kristendomen över hela världen och en kulturell ikon för Rio de Janeiro och Brasilien. 2012 förklarades Kristusstatyn som ett av Unescos världsarv.
