Things to do in Alphen aan den Rijn
Alphen aan den Rijn is a municipality, in the province of South Holland west in the Netherlands. The city is located next to the river the Oude Rijn (Old Rhine), this area has been inhabited for 2000 years and was occupied by the Romans. Remains of the Roman settlement still remain under the city center. Alphen was the limit of the Roman Empire which resulted in many soldiers and fortifications around the city and the river.Activities around the city are Avifauna Bird Park, the first park dedicated to birds in the world. And Archeon, a historical theme park about Dutch history containing replicas of buildings from the prehistoric to the Middle Ages. In the city itself, you will find a great number of shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Don't forget to pass by the historic windmill the Korenmolen de Eendracht dating back to the year 1800.
