Discover Beaune, a prestigious wine and art city, located in the heart of Burgundy’s famous vineyards. Fortified from 1368, Beaune was the capital of Burgundy before Dijon and still has preserved from that period, its ramparts and its bastions. The old town is a quite concentrated with several charming streets with small shops and old buildings surrounding the center.A must-see of the city is the impressive Hospices de Beaune (Hôtel-Dieu), a former hospital of the 15th century, well-preserved and renovated. The gothic architectural complex with colourful tiled roof includes a museum and three courtyards, outbuildings, wine cellars spanning hundreds of yards, notably conserving the wines of the hospices. Famous worldwide, the Hospices hosts every year the auction sale of wines, an important event for the world and wine industry.In Beaune and its surroundings, the wine lovers will be delighted while visiting the numerous villages and vineyards along the famous “Route des Grands Crus” (Burgundy wine route) between Beaune and Dijon.
