The little medieval town of Banska Stiavnica attracts tourists with its treasures and unforgettable atmosphere. Having belonged to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for more than 20 years, Stiavnica is filled with a rich history of mining gold and silver, a complex of amazing tajchs (artificial water reservoirs), famous calvary (a symbol of belief), and stylish coffee shops full of friendly people.
After the pick you up in your hotel, you will start a journey into the heart of Slovakia. The ore district of Stiavnica became the object of intense interest in the middle Ages. The mine excursion offers viewing of historical mining objects (architecture and machines), as well as the possibility to see and actually enter a former medieval historical mine. Follow the underground path, through old galleries, where silver and gold were exploited.
You will see the building complex of the Old Castle which includes also the Chapel of St. Michael and one of the most elegant architectural dominants of the town – New Castle. It stands as the guard near the entrance to Banska Stiavnica.
