Things to do in Tulum
As the only Maya archaeological site on the coast of the Yucatan, Tulum draws visitors as much for its views as its monuments. The ruins of this remarkable clifftop city make for a compelling visit, usually followed by a dip and selfie in the wave-washed beach – famed for its turtles – below it. You can visit and wander around yourself, admiring the genuine uniqueness of the site. Or you can join a guided tour to get the lowdown on the meaning behind El Castillo pyramid, the Temple of the Frescoes, Temple of the Descending God, the House of the Halach Uinic and more. And then, round off the experience by popping down to the beach for a dip. Playa Paraíso, located just below El Castillo pyramid, is particularly popular. “Bus was 30 minutes late for pick up. Guide did not choose to speak English to us so we did not get any instructions/itinerary. We spent 3 1/2 hours picking people up and dropping people off in the morning. Second guide did speak English to us but ww missed alot of the history etc. Very rude shaking basket in from of you asking for tips. We did tip even though not good experience. All locations we were told to rush as we were running out of time.”
“I was told to contact provider to confirm pick up time. I shouldn't need to do this - I provided details at booking so they should have contacted me. When I did call they couldn't find the booking. I spoke to the hotel Tui rep and she managed to sort it out with them. The excursion was fine but not great. The guide was pleasant but the tour of the Tulum ruins was poor and there was pretty much no information about the cenote. The price was good compared to other tours available.”
“The guide and driver were great. The fault lies squarely with TUI being very unhelpful, missing crucial details from the descriptions (e.g. bringing a towel) and generally mis-selling experiences - it's an absolute joke to call this a half day “2-4 hours” experience. We had a 5.35am pickup and returned at 4pm - there was little to no food and this is not communicated which completely ruined our day. My wife with low blood sugar issues is suffering from a migraine today. Thanks TUI!”
“Booked this as a half day trip. Was picked up from Playacar at 7:15 and returned at 4:30 - a long half day! Due to end of season multiple pickups I was told. Tulum is fascinating and different to Chicken Itza. Our tortilla experience was very good. Just be aware that the tequila they promoted so hard retails for cMex$ 100 (75cl) from most supermarkets - a bit less than the Mex$ 600 we paid. It is nice but you pay through the nose for the “show”. TUI we expect better!”
