Why you’ll love this…
  • The rural towns and fishing villages of Fuerteventura offer a glimpse into real Canarian culture
  • The fairytale-like village of Betancuria is brimming with history, like it's Gothic-style church
  • There's a chance to taste locally made goats cheese and honey rum, plus visit an Aloe Vera farm
  • You'll see Aztec designs, like moons, suns and snakes carved in the arch of Pajara's village church
  • Your local expert guide will show you sea caves, black-sand beaches and more on this full-day tour
What to expect

Stroll through timeworn village plazas and into pretty colonial churches, investigate sea caves and learn about typical produce. Between stops you'll visit lofty viewpoints to admire Fuerteventura's unusually stark landscape. It may look barren but Marta, one of our expert guides, says, ‘There are 44 different bird species found on Fuerteventura, despite the lack of trees. That's only four fewer than on the forested island of Madeira.'

You'll start the day learning about one of the island's best-known products at an aloe vera farm. Find out how it's become an excellent all-rounder in the wellbeing world. We'll then head to Pajara to visit Nuestra Señora de la Regla church to admire its standout Aztec-looking façade. Marta adds, ‘Pajara was once voted the sixth most beautiful village in Spain. It oozes charm.' Drive next to the tiny west-coast fishing village of Ajuy, where you can explore its black-sand beach and sea caves in chalk cliffs. It's on to Betancuaria next, with a photo stop along the way to overlook the parched mountains and the ocean at the Las Peñitas viewpoint.

Step back in time in Betancuria with a chance to see the church of Santa María – the oldest in the Canaries – which was consecrated in 1424, or take a visit to the archaeological museum and view some interesting exhibitions. Then it's on to a family-run restaurant in Valle de Santa Ines for a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients. And to round off the day, we'll visit a goat farm and sample local cheeses as well as local jams and honey rum liqueur – a Fuerteventura favourite.

Man hat nur im Bus gesessen. Dort, wo gehalten wurde, hatte man kaum Zeit, sich etwas anzuschauen. Würde ich niemandem empfehlen.

Bring a splash of excitement to your holiday with this two-hour cruise, where you'll be on the lookout for some of the ocean's most playful residents – dolphins. The calm, warm waters surrounding Fuerteventura are a dolphin's dream, rich with food and full of life, making it the perfect spot to see them darting through the waves and putting on a natural show.Catch the breezes on deck and keep your eyes peeled for the first hint of movement – you'll often just see a fleeting shadow or flash of dorsal fin before a playful pod surges into view. Then, with a bit of luck, you'll be treated to an incredible show as they leap, plunge and race through the water alongside you.You may even spot baby dolphins swimming close to their mothers, and if you're really lucky, pilot whales too. And when your eyes aren't tracking the waters, you'll have the Jandia coastline to gaze out over while you sit back with a drink and relax.
