What to expect

Mother Nature's imprint isn't the only one that looms large in Lanzarote. This half-day tour takes a close look at one of the island's most famous sons. You'll visit his Jameos del Agua and Mirador del Rio viewpoint. And you'll also discover the oldest town in the Canaries, Teguise. Cristina, one of our expert guides, says, ‘Local artist Cesar Manrique was to Lanzarote what Gaudi was to Barcelona. His architectural vision and activism left us a unique style in harmony with our volcanic landscapes and also helped preserve the island – he was opposed to high-rise hotels, so very few were built.'

The discovery begins at the Manrique-designed complex built around the Jameos del Agua volcanic caves. He converted them into a nightclub in the 60s. The stage is still in use, but the stars nowadays are the rare white crabs in a saltwater pond. Next, we'll cut through dramatic volcanic landscapes to the Mirador del Rio – another Manrique masterpiece. At almost 500 metres above sea level, it offers unbeatable views over the island of La Graciosa and its volcanoes.

After calling in at an Aloe Vera producer to learn the secrets of this versatile plant, you'll pass through a string of pretty villages en route to Teguise. As the former capital of the island, this history-steeped village boasts a number of eye-catching palaces, convents, chapels and churches – all within walking distance of each other. Enjoy free time to wander around and take snaps in the town's atmospheric centre.

Too long for pick ups and drop offs. 8.00-3.00 too long for half day trip - no time for lunch., rushed breakfast. Breakfast time not explained by rep at hotel. Felt the tour guide got too scientific in his second language and lecture style.

Interesting variety of activities. Aloe Vera visit had health implications and the views on the Mirador and in the lava tunnel were breathtaking. La Graciosa was splendid and interesting. The tour guide was very helpful and informative. Nothing we did not like..

Excellent tour, very interesting and great guide. Wish we’d had longer at each stop and left out the aloe vera factory visit.

Half-day guided volcano and wine tour in southern Lanzarote

Half-day guided volcano and wine tour in southern Lanzarote

Spend an afternoon in southern Lanzarote on this half-day guided tour, combining volcanic landscapes with local flavours. As your guide Carlos says, “southern Lanzarote's got a vibe all of its own, with lava cliffs, vineyards growing out of craters and sunsets that'll make you stop and stare.”You'll kick things off in the village of Yaiza, known for its traditional white buildings, palm-lined streets and quiet atmosphere. A stroll through the Plaza de los Remedios is the ideal introduction to this laidback, rural part of the island. Next, you'll take a look at the coastal scenery during a walk along Playa Montana Bermeja, where black volcanic sand meets the Atlantic Ocean. Then, swing by Bodega Finca Mota Artesanal in Conil, a charming, family-run winery offering more than just a taste. The winery is steeped in a deep love for tradition, agriculture, and the sea. The owners transformed their home into a living museum full of vintage objects and nostalgic touches that take you back in time. As Carlos puts it, “it's not just about sipping wine – it's about an immersive atmosphere where every detail from the décor to the story feels like stepping into a family archive, and where wine is made by hand with minimal intervention.” Finally, you'll wrap up your tour at Volcan del Cuervo, a volcanic crater in the middle of La Geria – AKA wine country. It's one of Lanzarote's most accessible volcanic sites – you can walk right into the crater – and was born during the massive Timanfaya eruptions that began in 1730. You'll arrive just before sunset, the perfect time to take it all in as the sun sets across the lava fields.

Lanzarote landscapes tour with wine-tasting at a local bodega

Get ready to fill your camera roll with the beauty of northern Lanzarote. From the Cactus Garden in Guatiza and sugar cube-like villages to the lava coast and family-run bodega, every stop reveals another layer of life here. Expert local guide, Ana, says, "we take the afternoon at a relaxed pace, soaking up the views and taking time to appreciate the connection between the ancient volcanic land and what we're able to craft and produce from it."Your journey begins in Guatiza with a photo stop outside the iconic Cactus Garden, created by legendary local artist Cesar Manrique. From the sea of prickly green, you'll head to the turquoise of the Atlantic lapping against the black volcanic rock and white sands of Caletón Blanco. Ana, adds, “the contrasting landscapes will have you thinking you've travelled across countries, yet in just 20 minutes, you'll be in the Valley of a Thousand Palms, where arid stretches are replaced with wildflowers and green date palms.” You'll visit the valley's village of Haria, where you can drop into traditional craft shops or opt to visit the Cesar Manrique House Museum – just so you know, this is at your own cost. Then, at the family-run bodega in Ye, you'll get a true taste of Lanzarote. Artisanal cheeses and wines produced from the island's mineral-rich terrain are on your tasting menu as you hear more about how they're made. Your final stop tops off the day – literally. From Mirador de las Nieves, you'll get sweeping views of the jagged volcanic cliffs that make this part of the island so unmissable.
