On the whole the day was fantastic. The day started with transport to the train station, but on arrival the queue of cars was so long we did not get on the train this was hugely disappointing to our whole group. Our guide did a fantastic job driving us over the mountains. The remainder of the day on the boat, the meal and the wine tasting were great. We have requested compensation for missing out on the train experience.
The hors d'oeuvres for this foodie experience are almost as good as the main dish – a train ride through Slovenia's mountains and valleys. You'll dine on traditional dishes at a family-run restaurant and travel into the Goriska Brda wine region for a tasting at one of the largest cellars in the area. And that's not forgetting the scenery – a boat trip across a lake is included, too.
You're in just the right place if you want a real taste of Slovenia. You'll kick off the tour with a winding train ride, which trundles its way through the green mountains and valleys towards the emerald waters of Soca River. After a leisurely boat cruise across the lake, you'll push forward into the Goriska Brda wine region.
Here, you'll have lunch at a family restaurant, which serves up all manner of typical Slovenian dishes for you to try. Then, at one of the country's largest wine cellars in Dobrovo, you'll learn about wine production and wind down the tour with a tasting of some of their best wines.
