Things to do in Lombok
Volcanic peaks, palm-fringed beaches and the feeling that time moves just a little bit slower, that’s Lombok in a nutshell. Often seen as Bali’s quieter neighbour, Lombok has a vibe all its own. It’s raw, wild and strikingly untouched. From the emerald-green hillsides that surround Tetebatu to the world-class waves in Kuta. The island offers the ideal mix of adventure and R&R. It’s a place where you can surf one day, hike to a jungle waterfall the next, or simply stretch out on white sand. But that’s not all. Lombok is a food aficionado's haven. Expect smoky ayam taliwang, spicy sambal and rice dishes wrapped in banana leaves. 1. Trek Mount Rinjani Towering over the island, Rinjani is Indonesia’s second-highest volcano and a bucket-list climb for good reason. The multiday trek takes you past crater lakes, steam vents and sweeping mountain views. 2. Unwind in Kuta Lombok Not to be confused with Bali’s version, this coastal town is the gateway to some of Lombok’s best beaches and best waves. Expect turquoise bays, great surf and a laidback scene that’s growing but still way more relaxed than its neighbour across the strait. 3. Discover the waterfalls of Senaru In the north, near the base of Rinjani, you’ll find cool, misty trails leading to Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep, two of the island’s most photogenic waterfalls. It’s the ideal mix of jungle trekking and pure refreshment.
