When visiting Lyon, France, you should definitely make a point of checking out the Fresque des Lyonnais, easily one of the city’s most famous murals.

The Fresque des Lyonnais is an 800+ square metre mural on the facade of a 6-floor windowless building next to the River Saône in Lyon’s 1st arrondissement. The grand mural was painted using the trompe-l’oeil art technique by the CitéCréation art collective in 1994-1995.

As you gaze towards the Fresque des Lyonnais, you’ll immediately notice the 30 people realistically painted onto the building. These depictions are of illustrious people in Lyon, including 24 historical figures and 6 contemporary characters.
