Surrounded by shifting desert sands, the palmeraie is an oasis of green in one of the harshest landscapes in the world. This half-day bike tour sees you cycle through this lifeline for the locals as you find out what it takes to survive. And after pedalling by some spectacular scenery, you'll finish with a well-earned Morrocan high tea. By choosing this excursion, you're helping the Pikala Bike project – an organisation supported by the TUI Care Foundation – that trains local young people to become professional tour guides and mechanics whilst keeping the planet green and clean.
After a quick briefing at the bike school, hop on a top-of-the-range mountain bike and you'll be ready to ride. Following your guide along dusty tracks and trails, you'll cycle beneath the hundreds of date, palm and olive trees that make up this sanctuary in the sand. Learn how locals have lived here since the 11th Century and discover ancient tips and tricks on desert survival.
Following a few hours of exploration, you'll pedal to a pit stop for a snack and drink courtesy of a traditional Moroccan afternoon tea.
