Enjoy a full-day excursion that takes you to the Giraffe Center and the Karen Blixen Museum. Your tour starts heading to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust situated on the outskirts of Nairobi. The Sanctuary is run by Angela Sheldrick and is set on the grounds of her late mother, Dame Daphne Sheldrick’s house. Here you will see the orphaned animals and meet the staff who handle and care for them.
Drive to the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for lunch. The restaurant is located on a Historic Swedo House which was the original hunting lodge/farmhouse which was built around 1906. It is located approximately a half-mile from the Karen Blixen museum. The historic Grogan/MacMillan Manor House was moved brick by brick from downtown Nairobi to the Coffee Garden in 2008, in order to be saved from destruction. It is the site of the original farmhouse of the property, which now is near the Karen Blixen Museum. The Coffee Garden spreads on 5 ½ acres of land with large hundred-year-old trees and a beautiful garden with hundreds of different varieties of blooming flowers, and a large population of birds.
After lunch, head to the Karen Blixen Museum. Once owned by Danish Author Karen and her Swedish husband Baron Bror, the museum is based at the foot of the Ngong Hills, the farmhouse gained international fame with the release of the movie ‘Out of Africa’ an Oscar-winning film.
The tour ends with a visit to the Giraffe Centre where the endangered Rothschild giraffe lives in peace. Children will particularly enjoy the elevated viewing platform. You will be back to your hotel in the late afternoon.
