Saint Paul the Apostle, whose original name was Saul of Tarsus, was one of the leaders of the first generation of Christians, often considered to be the second most important personality in the history of Christianity after Saint Peter. His surviving letters have had an enormous influence on the subsequent development of Christianity and secured his place as one of the greatest religious leaders of all time.

St. Paul arrived in Rome in 61 AD because the Roman court sentenced him to death for professing his faith. During this tour, you will visit the place where this sentence was carried out and the Palude Salvia, the site of his martyrdom, now turned into a peaceful monastery. The last stop of your tour will be Carcere Mamertino, the oldest prison in Rome, where the apostles Paul and Peter were imprisoned for 9 months and where, according to legend, they miraculously made water appear in order to baptize the guards.
