Located in the National Palace of Montjuïc, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) was built for the 1929 International Exhibition in Barcelona. In 1934, it opened its doors as Museu d'Art de Catalunya, gathering the medieval collection. Later, in 1995, the rooms of Romanesque art were inaugurated and, in 2004, modern art was presented. Its collection of Romanesque art is considered one of the most complete in the world. In 2006, the museum fund had almost 250,000 works in the different collections. In addition to temporary and itinerant exhibitions, MNAC carries out important functions of study, conservation and restoration of works of art. The museum includes all types of art and visitors can view a wide historical period, from the Romanesque to the mid-twentieth century. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most important museums in Barcelona and throughout Spain.
