What to expect

This tour is designed for those coming into Bergen on a cruise ship, as it starts 5 minutes walk from the cruise pier.

It begins at the former sailors’ quarter. Once considered the most dangerous part of the city, it’s now known for its beautifully preserved wooden houses—some over 300 years old—and is often regarded as Bergen’s most picturesque neighbourhood. Hidden alleys reveal centuries of history and charm.

The tour continues uphill to Nordnes, one of the most beloved neighbourhoods in Norway. Along the way, discover how the area’s reputation has transformed and gain insight into modern life in Bergen.

Heading down into the medieval centre, pass the iconic fish market and hear tips on local seafood dishes. Then explore narrow historic alleys that once formed the heart of Bergen’s trading district. Today, they’re filled with independent shops, cafés, and restaurants, blending old-world atmosphere with contemporary flair.

After passing the funicular station, arrive at Bryggen—Bergen’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. These colourful wooden warehouses have stood for centuries, offering a rare look into medieval trade between Norway and Germany, especially in seafood.

The tour ends in front of Bryggen, leaving time to explore this historic district at your own pace.
