What to expect

It's an early start as you head off to the ancient city of Corinth for the morning. Your guided tour will take in archaeological ruins that date back to 1600 BC, when Corinth was becoming a major trading hub in Greece. The iconic Temple of Apollo, built around 550 BC, adds a dash of Greek mythology to your visit, as you'll hear about how Corinthians worshiped the sun god.

In the Archaeological Museum, you'll see ancient artifacts, including Corinthian-style painted ceramics featuring intricate designs of flowers and mythical animals. Then, it's onto a more modern feat – the Corinth Canal. The sheer 90-meter cliffs here give it such a dramatic look, it's as if someone took a knife and sliced through the land. In reality, the four-mile-long canal that separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese took some hefty and impressive engineering.

Round off your day by learning all about what makes Corinth famous, its quality olive oil. You'll take a class at a local olive oil producer, tasting four of their award-winning extra virgin varieties alongside fresh bread, bruschetta and salad. After an hour with the professionals, you'll be a convert, with only the finest olive oils landing in your supermarket trolley back home.
