Things to do in Estonian Open Air Museum
There’s never a dull moment at the Estonian Open Air Museum, with exhibitions, workshops, and events that showcase rural Estonia and the 18th-19th century way of life. Who doesn’t love class reenactments in period costume too! Located just 15 minutes away from Tallinn city center in the quiet seaside area of Rocca al Mare, the whole family will enjoy travelling back in time and enjoying simple pleasures.
As you wander around the museum, you’ll find 14 farm buildings, a village will everything you could expect from shops, a fire station, historic windmills, a chapel, to the local village school. The staff will teach you how people lived and worked during this period. There are about 80 exhibit buildings that will teach about the different areas of Estonia, the Islands and so much more - you’ll become a real expert by the time you leave!
Don’t miss out on events that take place all year round such as traditional folk dances, songs, ancient customs of Midsummer’s Eve, and even an Estonian Bread Day! There’s a picnic area by the sea and a 3km nature trail if you want to enjoy the nature of the museum. You’ll love going on a horse and cart ride, trying Estonian dishes, and why not purchase a local handicraft product from the shop to remind you of your day out?
