Start your journey at the Sakatsura Isozaki Shrine, a 1,200-year-old spiritual haven renowned for its healing properties and good fortune. Traverse through a centuries-old camphor tunnel, affectionately known as Totoro Road, leading to the Pacific-facing Sea-view Torii. Here, you'll have the opportunity to touch the Lucky Turtle stone, believed to bestow wealth and longevity. Next, explore the Hitachi Seaside Park, where rolling dunes blaze with the fiery red hue of 32.000 kochia balls nestled beside delicate pink cosmos. Ascend sky-high boardwalks and take a spin on the towering ferris wheel for an expansive ocean panorama.
The final stop is the Ashikaga Flower Park's Garden of Light, one of Japan’s top three illuminations. Five million LEDs transform winter into a spectacle of wonder. Marvel at the 80-metre Miracle Wisteria shimmering like summer vines, the 100-metre Light Tunnel reflecting in mirror-like water, and the Flower Hand-washing Basin that morphs petals into liquid light. The themes change with the seasons: late-autumn salvia, Christmas dreams, and New Year fireworks of light.
On the road returning to Tokyo, take a quick pause at an Edo-themed rest area. Here you can find charcoal-grilled eel, one-bowl udon or sweet kuzumochi to round off your day of exploration.
