Etna er et siciliansk vulkansk kompleks, der opstod i den kvarternære tid. Den er den største vulkan i Europa, og den er blandt verdens mest aktive. Den imponerende sicilianske vulkan er med tiden blevet en vigtig attraktion for turister, der hvert år kommer til øen, da det er en af de få aktive vulkaner i verden, som er let tilgængeligt for alle.
Beliggende på den østlige kyst af Sicilien, inden for området af provinsen Catania, er dens overflade karakteriseret af en rig variation af miljøer: bylandskaber, tætte skove og øde områder dækket af magmatisk klippe og perioder med sne i de højere luftlag.

“Ansonsten eine gelungene Tour, nur das Wetter war leider sehr schlecht.auf dem Ätna. Kalt, Nebel, Wind und Schnee. Fabio konnte uns unterwegs im Bus trotzdem viele Eidrücke vermitteln.”
“Allereerst kwam de bus 50 minuten te laat en dat is niet fijn als je aan een drukke weg staat te wachten. als we dit eerder hadden geweten hadden we normaal in het hotel kunnen ontbijten. Verder is er niet verteld dat het op de Etna koud was dus we waren hier niet op gekleed. Staat wel in de beschrijving maar was fijn geweest als ze dit nog even hadden benoemd. Ook kon je niks zien , tenzij je bijbetaalde en de reisleidster was niet goed te verstaan, slecht engels!!! terugreis was veels te lang.”
“All good till bus due to leave Mount Etna ~ 12:30 . The ~ 2 hours 20 minutes delay due failure of passengers who went or tried to go to top to return in time due to weather . Question : If weather was an issue why were these people allowed to ascend ? Rest of the trip a wash out as a result .”
“The guide on the coach was excellent. The guide at Mt Etna we had no contact with on arrival we just had to follow the group. On the day the wind was very strong. The route to the highest point was by foot and a short cut was being taken, because of the wind. We were being sand blasted by ash and the route up a hill was difficult for many. Some said it may be OK when we get to the other side. But we didn't know and turned back as did many others.”
