Visit the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, located 2,380 feet above sea level. This spiritual retreat has existed for almost a thousand years. Inside the basilica, see the Virgin of Montserrat (the "Black Madonna"), patron saint of Catalonia. Explore the monastery surroundings and enjoy spectacular views of the Natural Park. In the afternoon, travel to the Penedès region and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the "capital of Cava". Tour the historical Codorníu wineries, where Spain's first Cava was produced in 1872 using Penedès grapes.
