Thanks to its volcanic landscape, Iceland is home to many black sand beaches. The most famous is Reynisfjara, found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside the small fishing village of Vik. The distinctive black sand forms from eroded volcanic rock creating this strikingly unique landscape where the black sand contrasts the white powerful waves of the Atlantic.
From full day trips to multi-stop tours departing from Reykjavík, there is a lot more than just the black sand beach to see. The area also offers some impressive sights including the odd rock face of columnar basalt, looming cliffs, hidden caves and the magnificent Reynisdrangar sea stacks that rise from the ocean at the foot of Reynisfjall mountain.
