Retken kuvaus

Ensimmäinen pysähdyspaikka on Seljalandsfossin vesiputous, jonka takana voit kävellä. Ihaile näkymiä ainutlaatuiselta näköalapaikalta samalla, kun tunnet tärinän jalkojesi alla veden iskeytyessä maahan. Aivan Seljalandsfossin vierestä löydät sen "pikkuveljen" Gljúfrabúin, pienemmän vesiputouksen, joka on piilossa kapeassa rotkossa ja jonne pääsee vain tasapainoilemalla joessa olevien pienten kivien päällä.

Etelärannikon helmi on ehdottomasti Skógafossin vesiputous. Se virtaa alas itäisen Eyjafjöll-vuoren 60 metriä korkeilta kallioilta, ja on luultavasti maan valokuvauksellisin vesiputous. Vesi on vuosien saatossa kaivautunut kallioon, ja kaunis vesiputous putoaa alas pienestä rotkosta. Kun tähän lisätään sateenkaaret, joita muodostuu vesiputouksen roiskeista, parempaa valokuvauspaikkaa on vaikea löytää. Vesiputouksen vieressä on portaat ylös kalliolle, josta on näkymät alas rotkoon ja vesiputoukselle. 527 askelmaa huipulle taoimii loistavana alkulämmittelynä jäätikkökävelyä varten!

Seikkailu jatkuu Sólheimajökullin jäätiköllä, joka on osa Islannin neljänneksi suurinta jäätikköä, Mýrdalsjökullia. Saat paikalliselta retkioppaaltasi kypärän, valjaat, nastat ja jäähakun, ennen kuin pääset vaeltamaan jäälle 1-1,5 tunnin ajaksi. Jäätikköoppaat ovat koulutettuja ja luvan saaneita, jotta vaellus olisi turvallinen, viihdyttävä ja informatiivinen.

Käyt idässä Reynisfjaran mustalla hiekkarannalla, jossa Atlantin massiiviset aallot huuhtovat ainutlaatuisia basalttimuodostelmia. Vedessä olevat kivipilarit ja Dýrhólaeyn kalliot näkyvät kaukana. Tämä eteläinen alue on myös lintuharrastajien paratiisi, sillä kesä-elokuussa kallioiden huipulla pesii lunneja ja kymmeniä muita ainutlaatuisia lajeja.

What a fab day! Small group, affable driver/guide. Great sights, highlight was definitely the glacier walking - an amazing experience! A long day, 12 hours, with no decent meal break although our driver did try and make allowances for this. Would have been nice to have a meal/voucher included on such a long day
