Manrique had tijdens zijn leven vele bewonderaars en zijn invloed op de cultuur van Lanzarote leeft nog steeds voort. Hij was een veelzijdig kunstenaar die schilderijen, beeldhouwwerken en architectonische werken maakte en duurzaamheid centraal stelde in zijn creaties. Lang voordat het een modewoord werd. Je bezoekt eerst zijn Jardín de Cactus, waar 1.100 soorten vetplanten worden gekweekt. Je ziet meteen hoe Manrique's vaardigheid en visie het kale landschap heeft verbeterd.

Ook de Fundacion Cesar Manrique laat zien dat er een harmonie tussen bebouwde ruimtes en de natuur mogelijk is. Het atelier van de kunstenaar, gebouwd in een lavaveld, is daarvan het bewijs. De laatste stop van je tour is bij LagOmar, een prachtige locatie waar natuur en kunst naadloos in elkaar overgaan. Deze unieke plek ligt in een vulkanische steengroeve en bevat faciliteiten zoals een grot-bar, restaurant en een museum. Volgens een lokale legende was LagOmar korte tijd in bezit van Hollywoodster Omar Sharif. Maar hij zou het tijdens een kaartspelletje verloren hebben.

As your guide Carlos says, “southern Lanzarote's got a vibe all of its own, with lava cliffs, vineyards growing out of craters and sunsets that'll make you stop and stare.”You'll kick things off in the village of Yaiza, known for its traditional white buildings, palm-lined streets and quiet atmosphere. A stroll through the Plaza de los Remedios is the ideal introduction to this laidback, rural part of the island. Next, you'll take a look at the coastal scenery during a walk along Playa Montana Bermeja, where black volcanic sand meets the Atlantic Ocean. Then, swing by Bodega Finca Mota Artesanal in Conil, a charming, family-run winery offering more than just a taste. The winery is steeped in a deep love for tradition, agriculture, and the sea. The owners transformed their home into a living museum full of vintage objects and nostalgic touches that take you back in time. As Carlos puts it, “it's not just about sipping wine – it's about an immersive atmosphere where every detail from the décor to the story feels like stepping into a family archive, and where wine is made by hand with minimal intervention.” Finally, you'll wrap up your tour at Volcan del Cuervo, a volcanic crater in the middle of La Geria – AKA wine country. It's one of Lanzarote's most accessible volcanic sites – you can walk right into the crater – and was born during the massive Timanfaya eruptions that began in 1730. You'll arrive just before sunset, the perfect time to take it all in as the sun sets across the lava fields.

You'll stop by Lago Verde, a green lagoon in an old volcano crater that's coloured by the algae in the water. The lagoon is separated from the sea by a black sand beach, contrasting with the green water of the lagoon and the deep blue of the sea. During your free time in El Golfo, you can explore the town's plentiful oceanfront restaurants at your own pace. While food isn't included in this part of the trip, local favourites such as grilled fish and papas arrugadas, AKA wrinkled potatoes, are well worth trying. This Canarian specialty is boiled in heavily salted water until the skin wrinkles and forms a salty crust, typically served with a red or green mojo sauce.Finally, you'll visit La Geria, Lanzarote's wine region, known for its unique production methods. Vines are grown in pits dug into the volcanic soil and protected by stone walls called zocos. This helps the vines thrive despite the dry conditions and strong winds on the island, which then produces the island's renowned Malvasia wine. You'll wrap up your tour with a wine-tasting session, sampling the flavours Lanzarote is known for while taking in its volcanic views.
