Start the day with being collected from your hotel and visiting Cenote Hubiku, a cavernous freshwater pool in a light-filled limestone cave. Take a deep breath and dive in for a surreal swim. If the water's not for you, you may want to head over to Casa Don Tadeo and purchase a homemade Tequila.

Next, indulge in the buffet lunch included ready for travelling on the last leg of the drive to Chichén Itzá and hear all about it. Plus, you'll admire the sacred Cenote, and the quiet city of Valladolid with its colonial-era pastel walls of shops giving a colorful backdrop for photos.

This National Geographic Day Tour is a journey into the deepest aspects of Mayan culture, bridging the gap between the tempting beauty of the cenotes the region is so famous for, and the significance they hold in local tradition. You'll begin the day with a descent into either Abuelo or Zoi Che cenote, where you can choose to enjoy a cooling dip. These water-filled caverns offer a tangible connection to the Mayan way of life.
