What to expect

After your pick-up in Reykjavik, you will start your journey to the South passing the Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal power plant, that supplies the capital's energy needs. Once passing through the mountain pass, you will see the ocean and the ice cap of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. During a sunny day you can also spot the Westman Islands on the horizon.

The first stop is the majestic Skógafoss waterfall, a local celebrity, that you might have seen on the popular Game of Thrones show. The waterfall is 60 meters tall and will leave you speechless. According to the local legend, there is some treasure hidden behind it, who knows, you might be lucky enough to find it.

Next, you are traveling to the Reynisfjara black sand beach, which was once named as one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the whole world. It is believed that once you see this extraordinary area, you will understand why. The basalt columns, Reynisdrangar, situated next to the beach will amaze you as well. Furthermore, the guide will tell you about all the interesting stories and sagas that are connected to this place.

Vík í Mýrdal is the southernmost point in the country. This charming fishing village serves as the center of the region. You will visit the local church, which offers a great view of the whole settlement.

On your way back, we are making a stop at the Sólheimajökull glacier as well. 11% of Iceland is covered by ice, and this particular one is an outlet glacier, connected to the fourth biggest glacier of the country, Mýrdalsjökull.

The day is still not over, your last stop will be the extremely popular Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is located under the notorious Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which paralyzed Europe's air traffic during its last eruption in 2010. If the conditions allow it, you will walk behind a waterfall. You will also visit the nearby, hidden cousin, Gljúfrabúi, before heading back to Reykjavik.
