Next you will visit the Aranzazu sanctuary. According to legend, the Virgin appeared to a shepherd named Rodrigo de Balzategi on a thorn tree and he, astonished, asked him: "Arantzan zu?" (You on a thorn tree?). During the following centuries, the Franciscan friars made Arantzazu a place of devotion and pilgrimage, and an exponent of art and culture.
