Travel along the Trieste coastline aboard an electric boat, setting sail from Grignano and heading towards the small port of Santa Croce. This voyage through the Miramare Marine Protected Area is guided by WWF staff, including biologists and naturalists, who will lead you in discovering the rich marine and coastal environments.
As you traverse the protected waters, admire the white towers of Miramare Castle mirrored in the sea. Your guides will share stories about the diverse marine species, coastal birds, and distinctive habitats that make this area so valuable. Equipped with binoculars and identification guides, you'll have the opportunity to observe the birds that feed, rest, and nest among the mussel farms up close.
The journey also offers views of the coastline, where the terraced landscape of the Karst plateau unveils a profound bond between people and nature. This connection is evident in viticulture, olive growing, shellfish farming, and the historic tuna fishery that flourished here until the 1950s.
The experience concludes with a toast on board—a glass of sustainably produced local wine from the Karst's terraced vineyards—celebrating the beauty and biodiversity of the Miramare UNESCO MaB Biosphere Reserve.
The experience is part of the Slow Food Travel offer, for lovers of the outdoors, biodiversity and the culinary and anthropological heritage of landscapes.
