What to expect

Discover the Jewish Cultural Quarter in the heart of Amsterdam's old Jewish quarter. Within less than one square kilometre you can visit three impressive locations with just one ticket: the Jewish Museum (including the Jewish Museum junior), the stately Portuguese Synagogue and the Hollandsche Schouwburg (The National Holocaust Memorial).

The Jewish Museum, housed in four monumental synagogues, offers a unique perspective on Jewish life in the Netherlands past and present. Its multimedia collection includes art, films, everyday objects and interactive displays, with temporary exhibitions throughout the year. For young visitors, the Jewish Museum junior provides a playful introduction to Jewish culture: bake bread in the kosher kitchen, make music in the music room or learn Hebrew in the study.

The Portuguese Synagogue (1675) is one of Amsterdam's most striking monuments. Still used to this day, it is illuminated by hundreds of candles and houses treasure chambers with silver, gold and silk ceremonial objects.

The National Holocaust Memorial, located in the former Hollandsche Schouwburg theatre, is a poignant site where tens of thousands of Jews were assembled before being deported during WWII. Today it serves as a place of remembrance, with a wall of names and exhibitions about the Holocaust in the Netherlands.
