Why you’ll love this…
  • West coast glass bottom-catamaran cruise
  • Bonita Cave visit
  • Possibility of seeing dolphins and whales
What to expect

This glass bottom-catamaran cruise along La Palma's west coast takes you to spots that are almost impossible to reach by land. We'll sail into the Bonita Cave and see landmarks along the way. What's more, there's a chance to spot dolphins and catch sight of the recently erupted Cumbre Vieja volcano, too.

The fun kicks off when the Fancy II sails from Tazacorte harbour and heads northwards past volcanic cliffs with drops of more than 200 metres. We'll stop at the Bonita Cave – a large grotto with two mouths. Centuries ago, locals would hide here from pirates. The catamaran will sail right into the cave. Next up is Poris de Candelaria, where a few fishermen's huts have been built at the foot of cliffs.

We'll keep on sailing, passing the Colorada Cave and Poris de Puntagorda. With luck, we'll spot pods of dolphins and whales, which roam freely in La Palma's Atlantic waters.

What an amazing trip! This boat trip is highly recommended! Informative and some surprises too - just amazing vistas and lucky enough to see two groups of Bottlenose Dolphins this time

I recently went on a boat trip and overall had a good time. The views were beautiful, especially as we cruised past the coastline and watched the dolphins. It was definitely a highlight of the experience. The crew were friendly and the boat itself was clean and well-maintained. My only real criticism is the limited drink selection. It would’ve been nice to have more variety and something a bit more refreshing and maybe some snacks to purchase. Still, it was a lovely way to spend the day.

It was incredible seeing dolphins swimming beside us! I’ve never seen dolphins in the wild and I’m 53 years old! Amazing experience! The trip was 2.5 hours and was fantastic. The cave was really unique and also seeing the recent volcano that erupted and the lava flows from the ocean was incredible. I wish I could have heard the talk though on the boat, the lovely guy was trying to speak loudly over the sound of the boat, but hard to hear, so missed a lot of facts. Also no safety brief!

Overall an enjoyable experience and we saw pilot whales so very happy! Transfer was good after long delayed start waiting for one person who didn't show. There had been some confusion with emails sent stating the trip was initially cancelled , then reinstated. There was no safety talk on boat. The young guide was very personable and fluent but spoke extremely rapidly so difficult to understand at times.

Trip was well organised and the guides on the boat were excellent. The transfer was on time and very comfy. The boat had plenty of seating and great views. Got to see two whales and watch the guides rescue 23 sea birds, which was great fun.

Canarians call La Palma ‘la isla bonita' – the beautiful island – which is quite the compliment. It's so enchanting that Rudi, one of our guides, decided to make it his home 40 years ago. ‘I love doing this tour,' he says. ‘It shows you the island's past and present – from one of the world's biggest observatories to Tajogaite, Europe's newest volcano.' Plus, you'll discover wonders such as Roque de los Muchachos and the primeval Caldera de Taburiente.Your adventure kicks off as you venture up the 2,500m-high Roque de los Muchachos – La Palma's highest peak – passing the domed astronomical observatory on the way. At the top, take in the views over the 8km-wide Caldera de Taburiente, the island's only national park. Ringed by cloud-bursting peaks, this immense bowl is thick with pine forests and waterfalls. Your guide will fill you in on the park's history and how your visit will help conserve its ecosystems.Next, it's on to Puntagorda – arguably one of the prettiest villages in the Canaries. Nestled between two ravines, rows of pine and almond trees flank cobbled streets that enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you'll have some time to have a poke around the weekly farmer's market, with stalls dedicated to local produce and handicrafts. At El Time viewpoint, there are heart-pounding views over the Angustias gorge. We'll also make our way to Tajuya viewpoint, from where you can observe the scarred, inferno-like slopes of the Tajogaite volcanic cone, formed from an eruption in autumn 2021.

On this full day tour, you'll discover fragrant forests, volcanic rock pools and colonial villages. Then, to round off the experience, you'll sample sweet-as-honey local rum.Kick off this jam-packed excursion at San Bartolo viewpoint – overlooking steep coastal hills and the Atlantic beyond, the views are a showstopper. From here, it's onto the natural sea-water pools of Charco Azul – the ‘blue pools' where, weather permitting, we'll have a quick swim. Then, it's onto the sea-view village of San Andres, a flower-filled cluster of brightly coloured buildings enhanced by all the greenery.Next up, is one of Rudi's favourite parts of the tour. ‘You walk beside tropical banana plantations and find out why they're essential to island life,' he says. Then, after a stroll along the volcanic shoreline of Charco Azul, you'll stop to taste rum at one of the last traditional distilleries in the Canaries.'
