Samana Peninsula Tour

Loved the itinerary Combination of relaxing on the beach and horseback riding through forest to finish with amazing waterfall swim. Loved it Didn t like the way horses were treated by some of the people working with them

Although it was a long day it was worth it. It was all very well planned out and you were taken care of the whole time.

It’s a long day so go prepared, 14 hours from pickup to drop off. Coach ride then a boat ride to stop off at a lovely semi private beach where we had time to soak up the sun and have lunch. Then onto another boat ride and then buses to the horses to visit the waterfall. Horses are optional, we decided to walk, not advised if you only have flip flops on as it’s rocky and luckily we had trainers. Then the trip home, buses, boat then the coach. Great day, but too long for the kids they said.

We has no idea how long a day thus would be but it was over 13 hours long there was a 1hr 45 min transfer to the boat then a 30 minute boat journey to the island. Bacardi beach was gorgeous the water was clear we had some time to ourselves and then lunch at 12 which was a buffet of salad and local fish and chicken. There were professional photographers there who charge $50 for the pictures they take. We had another boat journey to the other part of the island and another bus journey to the horses where we rode them to the cave horses a d cave were beautiful however we were told the guides there are only volunteers and that they would accept "tips" but basically were relying on us to pay them for their time as to which they expected $20 per person which we didn't have and it put a dampner in the trip. Then the long journey back overall was nice to experience the island and the cave but a long day

A full day. Beautiful waterfall (Limon), and enjoyed the horse ride to get there. The path for the horses could be better though ! Limited drinks on the beach. Excellent guide for the day (Nata ?)

The overall excursion was great and the tour guide was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The day itself was fully packed with things to do and enjoy throughout. However, our concerns and criticisms as a lover of animals was the way the horses were treated by the horse guides during my horse ride to and from the waterfall. I have never witnessed such foul treatment by the guides not just verbally towards the horses but also physically which I would find in the UK not acceptable in respect of animal rights, and the guides have the cheek to get upset with me as the tip I gave them wasn't satisfactory. My partner was also harassed for money on her own in the forest by the guide whilst her horse was trying to negotiate difficult terrain. After being giving $10 which he clearly wasn't happy about he proceeded to harass for more money to feed the horse. My partner would of got off and walked the rest of the way but the terrain was so bad she thought she was safer on the horse. Whilst we appreciate different countries have different ways there is some serious health and safety issues with the trail that leads to the waterfall. We were worried for ourselves and the poor horses. Also a lot of the horses are not a suitable size for the size and weight of some of the people that were on the excursion. Secondly I don't like having to run away from the two guys who were relentless at pestering me to buy photos from them. Overall I would love to go on this trip again but the horse riding should be scrapped due to animal cruelty. Either that or make the trail safer for the horses and sort the guides out as their behaviour is awful to us and those poor horses.
